Victorian Inspired Textiles
Originally inspired by a Victorian mourning cape and veils have created these pieces using my signature 3D embroidery technique and Cornley embroidery using vintage lace and contemporary techniques to combine old with new.
My major pieces always have a narrative to them. In brief here is the story behind the two veils. Veil one (black) - the embroidery design is inspired by the growth and decay of moss growing on the Victorian gravestones I saw during a visit to an exhibition at Norwood Cemetery, London. The heavy design is anchoring the female mourner down and drowning her due to her loss. I used two cornley embroidery stitches. Moss and chain. The moss stitch is temporary and can be pulled at any time which represents the fragile nature of the female at this time in her life.
Veil two (purple) - After one year and one day the female was allowed to introduce the colour palette of purple into her attire. I embellished the piece with vintage pearls that represent the symbolism of pearls used in mourning jewellery - tears.
Veil two (citrus) - This veil represents the female of the 21st century; fun and liberated.
As well as creating the veils I also styled and directed the shoot........another passion of mine.
Recent publication featuring some of the work. http://hufmagazine.com/somethings-bugging-rosaline-photography-loo-loo-rose-huf-magazine/
