Underwater Love Meets Primal Futurism
Environmental issues threaten certain coral and sealife. This work represents the textures, colours and contours of the underwater world, creating ‘preserved textiles’.
The cape (Miss Coral) reflects the growth and cultivation of the natural world, using traditional textile techniques and vintage aesthetics injected with contemporary technology producing an innovative futuristic piece that ultimately creates an art and fashion crossover. Miss Coral represents the ‘day’ colours of certain coral species with the glow in the dark ‘night’ version representing the electric creatures of the Abyss.
To demonstrate the diversity in my design processes, in addition to Miss Coral a number of digitally printed commercial textiles have been produced which have originated from sketches and embroidery pieces.
My commercial designs are diverse and can be adapted for the fashion, interiors or accessories markets, whereas my more elaborate creations would be suitable for the costume, music video and fashion editorial markets.
To accompany the editorial images I also produced a short moving image of the work to bring the textiles to life.
